Our Curriculum

The curriculum was created using the  EYFS Framework, Birth to 5 matters, and Development Matters and is the basis of all the activities and provision we provide for the children.  It is split up into the 7 areas of development and then further split into 3 different terms, sub divided into 6 half terms that cover the whole year.

The curriculum can be seen as specific targets that we aim for the children to achieve that term. Each week we have a different theme and we try to match these to what is happening in the world at that time. For example key events such as Mothers Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, ect….

Curriculum Tracking

Curriculum tracking is a process we use to monitor each individual child’s development. Our Curriculum is used by the key worker to track their key children each Half term ( every 6-8 weeks). If we have a child that has suspected SEND, or weaknesses in specific areas, we will track them every 4-6 weeks to see if there is an emerging need and monitor them more closely, allowing for early intervention.

We have 3 terms, broken up into half term tracking; Spring Term 1 & 2, Summer Term 1 & 2, Autumn Term 1 & 2.

Each key worker is responsible for tracking their key children each half term. The Setting Manager supports this assessment and works alongside the key workers to set appropriate next steps. We work closely with families to agree clear outcomes, tailored support strategies, and next steps, always considering the child's voice. â€‹

The curricullum isseparated into the 7 areas of development which are:

1. Physical

2. Personal Social and Emotional

3. Communication and Language

4. Literacy

5.Mathematics

6. Expressive Arts and Design

7. Understanding the World

The below is an example curriculum tracker, displaying the 3 prime areas of development. These areas are then broken down into different aspects, which are further broken down into age and stage expectations. Your child's key worker will go through this curriculum every 6-8 weeks and highlight where your child's development is with regards to each statement.

Grey is emerging

Orange is Developing

Green is secure

You may find that you have seen different aspects of development at home, we can only track what we have observed at nursery. It may take some time for the development to match.

Once your child’s key worker has tracked their development using our curriculum, they will then use this to identify their next steps. They will use these to plan engaging activities that support their ongoing development and learning. These activities are tailored to your child’s individual needs and interests, making the most of the resources available within the setting. Throughout the day, your child may take part in both planned activities and smaller, spontaneous experiences, all designed to help them progress. Planning is flexible, allowing staff to adapt activities or introduce new ideas to best support your child’s learning journey. If additional resources are needed to further support your child, staff will work closely with management to ensure these are provided.

Your child’s key worker is committed to continually developing their knowledge and understanding of early childhood development. They regularly explore new ideas, approaches, and ways of supporting learning to ensure they are providing the best possible experiences for your child. This ongoing professional development helps them effectively support your child’s next steps and respond to their individual needs with confidence and care.
